Structural Bamboo
Bamboo as a structural material is gaining ground slowly, following the recent gazzatte notification by GoI on declassification of Bamboo from being a tree. While many of the South Indian native species can be used as structural bamboo, some varieities are gaining in popularity due to its economic feasibility as bamboo plantations like Balcoa, G. Angustifolia etc
The structural aspects of Bamboo has been specified in the National Building Code 2005 itself. The same can be downloaded for reference from the link below (Part 6 - Section 3B > from page 474)
